North America witnessed a 9.3% rise in IT hiring activity in the travel & tourism industry in October 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

October 2021 has seen an increase of 5.99% in the overall hiring activity when compared with September 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.67% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in October 2021, registering an increase of 0.38% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in October 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 61.47% in October 2021, a 1.22% rise over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 14.49% in October 2021, marking a 54.61% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 10.42% in October 2021, a 26.12% rise from September 2021.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 7.46% in October 2021, a 4.31% rise over the previous month.

Top five travel & tourism companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 18.1% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s travel & tourism industry during October 2021 over previous month.

Walt Disney posted 184 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered an increase of 48.39% over the previous month, followed by Expedia Group with 172 jobs and a 39.01% drop. BCD Travel Services with 163 IT jobs and XPO Logistics with 155 jobs, recorded a 79.12% rise and a 64.89% rise, respectively, while Expeditors International of Washington recorded a 79.49% increase with 70 job postings during October 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s travel & tourism industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s travel & tourism industry IT hiring activity with a 92.17% share in October 2021, a 4.69% increase over September 2021. Canada featured next with a 7.27% share, up 8.26% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 0.55% share, a growth of 28.57% compared with September 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 56.78%, up by 2.79% from September 2021. Mid Level positions with a 25.34% share, registered a growth of 0.49% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 16.89% share, up 20.18% over September 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.99%, recording a month-on-month growth of 45.45%.
