The US’s travel & tourism industry registered an 8.4% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 2.63% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the travel & tourism industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.54% share in December 2021, recording a decrease of 0.25% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US’s travel & tourism industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.46% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s travel & tourism industry in December 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 60.88% in December 2021, registering a 23.79% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 12.38% share, a decrease of 20.57% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 8.95%, registering a 31.36% decline from November 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 7.96%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five travel & tourism companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 20.59% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s travel & tourism industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

The Walt Disney posted 138 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a drop of 23.33% over the previous month, followed by Expedia Group with 58 jobs and a 27.5% drop. United Parcel Service with 49 IT jobs and Enterprise Holdings with 43 jobs, recorded an 113.04% growth and a 42.67% decrease, respectively, while American Airlines Group recorded a decline of 28% with 36 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 54.7%, down by 27.84% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 28.4% share, registered a decline of 4.81% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 16.24% share, down 14.04% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.66%, recording a month-on-month increase of 20%.
