Brij Hotels, known for its collection of boutique properties in India, has closed a $4m Series A financing round.

The investment round was led by the Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG) Family Office, with contributions from Bain Capital managing director Abhiroop Jayanthi.

It also saw participation from various other notable investors, including Abhay Jain, Rajendra Rao, and Prashant Deshpande.

Co-founded by Udit and Anant Kumar, Brij Hotels operates eight hotels in various prime tourist locations across India, including Jaipur, Raipur, Varanasi, and Rajasthan.

The hotel brand claims to specialise in offering intimate luxury experiences that are rooted in local culture and sustainability. Each hotel is designed to reflect the respective region’s heritage, allowing guests to experience the local tapestry.

The company is also committed to adhering to sustainable practices and aims to minimise carbon footprints and environmental impact through its zero-kilometre concept.

With the new funds, Brij Hotels plans to execute a strategic expansion to further solidify its position in the hospitality market in India.

A BW Hotelier’s report noted that the company’s expansion is timely, as the Indian consumer landscape shows a growing preference for culturally rich and sustainable luxury accommodations.

The news report cited property consultant HVS ANAROCK’s report that indicates a growth of more than 50% in the past three years in the boutique hotel sector.

Commenting on the fundraise, Udit and Anant Kumar said: “At Brij Hotels, our commitment goes beyond providing luxurious stays; it extends to celebrating and empowering the heart and soul of our destinations – the local communities. The essence of our hospitality lies in using the original creative entrepreneurs and artisans, who preserve centuries-old traditions and sustainable practices.

“We are excited to have the support of investors like the MEMG Family Office, Abhay Jain, Abhiroop Jayanthi, Rajendra Rao, and Prashant Deshpande, who share our vision. With their backing, we’re not just expanding; we’re on a journey to become a unique storytelling and hospitality destination, offering an authentic, and well-designed experience that connects our guests with the rich heritage of each local.”

In April 2023, Brij Hotels confirmed plans to open new properties in multiple states in India, including Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
