Marriott International has signed a deal with Capital Alliance to open the AC Hotels by Marriott brand in Australia.
The new property of AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne Southbank will feature 200 rooms and is anticipated to open in 2020 as a part of a 40-story mixed-use building.
Besides the new hotel, the building, called The Normanby, will feature premium apartments, dining venues and shopping.
It will stand at the center of the Fishermans Bend neighborhood, close to Melbourne’s city center and the Yarra River.
The new property is Marriott International’s second hotel deal with Capital Alliance, following the Melbourne Marriott Hotel Docklands, which is currently being constructed.
Capital Alliancefounder and CE Mohan Du said: “Just a stone’s throw from the city, Fishermans Bend is going to redefine inner suburban living and the AC Melbourne Southbank will attract sophisticated and discerning travelers to the area.”
Marriott International senior director of development for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Richard Crawford said: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Capital Alliance to bring a new lifestyle brand to Melbourne and Australia.
“The AC Melbourne Southbank underscores the growing demand we’re seeing in Australia for premium lifestyle hotels that offer style and functional design, as well as authentic and memorable travel experiences connected to the location.”
Currently, Marriott is operating a portfolio of 18 hotels in Australia, while another 17 hotel projects are in the pipeline.
Marriott International VP of Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Sean Hunt said: “Across Australia, we’re seeing growing demand for lifestyle brands like AC Hotels by Marriott, so we are delighted that we’ve found the right location and the right partner to bring this brand to market.”
Marriott has a target of opening 50 hotels across New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific region by the end of 2020.
