UAE-based FIVE Hotels and Resorts secured an International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) for using 100% renewable electricity at its hotels last year.
Granting of the certificate aligns with the UAE’s ‘Year of Sustainability’ and has made FIVE the first and only hotel in the country to receive I-REC.
It also supports FIVE’s Sustainability Objective of Vibrant Communities and Partnerships to “Innovate to address social and environmental challenges”, Arabian Business reports.
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, developed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has been awarded the certificate.
DEWA managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said: “FIVE’s commitment to sustainability is a role model for other businesses in the UAE and around the world at all levels.”
“At DEWA, we promote sustainability and the shift towards a sustainable green economy by increasing the share of renewable and clean energy within Dubai’s energy mix.
