IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has announced the signing of InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest, in Romania.

This move represents the return of the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand to the country.

Slated to open in January next year, IHG is working with business partner ANA Hotels, a Romanian-based hotel owner to develop the hotel in Bucharest.

For several years, ANA Hotels has owned and operated IHG’s Crowne Plaza Bucharest.

The hotel building dates back to 1914.

 InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest will feature 283 guest rooms, with several offering panoramic views of Ateneului Park and the Romanian Athenaeum.

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts currently has 31 open hotels across Europe. Among the recent signings include InterContinental Resort Crete, InterContinental Resort Amma, Canj – Montenegro and InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace.

InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest will feature Roberto’s, a stylish breakfast area and all-day dining space with an outside terrace; Café Athénée for dining; and The English Bar for drinks and cocktails.

Its Diplomat ballroom, with stained-glass roof and intricate panelling, will serve as a venue for large gatherings, such as conferences and weddings. It will also feature , there will be the exquisite. There will be an additional 13 meeting rooms for business use.

It will have a gym, an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, plus two treatment rooms and two beauty salons.
