IntercityHotel, a Deutsche Hospitality brand, has opened its second location in Austria at the city of Graz.

Located next to the main railway station of the city, the hotel was developed by GBI Company Group.

It features 229 rooms spread over five floors, a restaurant, a BistroLounge, a Smokers’ Lounge and four conference rooms. The interiors of the hotel are designed by the Italian architect Matteo Thun.

The company claims that currently, the IntercityHotel Graz is the largest hotel in the city.

IntercityHotel managing director Christian Kaschner said: “We have wanted to open an IntercityHotel in Graz for some considerable time.

“Graz is an economic hub and a city of culture and science all rolled into one. This is an ideal location for the kind of modern and sustainable hotel that IntercityHotels are able to deliver.

“We would like to extend our thanks to our partner, the GBI Company Group, for making this venture possible.”

Graz, the capital city of the southern Austrian province of Styria, is one of UNESCO’s designated Design Cities and hosts museums, galleries, universities and festivals.

GBI Holding CEO Reiner Nittka said: “As the capital of Styria, Graz is both a strong economic engine and a popular tourist destination.

“It is a highly appropriate and impressive location for our debut on the Austrian market, especially given the hotel’s great central position.”

IntercityHotel is a modern upper mid-range urban hotel brand and its properties are usually located within walking distance of airports or railway stations.

Currently, the portfolio includes more than 40 hotels, while 20 additional properties are currently under development.

The brand’s first location in Austria is located in Vienna.
