US-based KSL Resorts has launched a new sustainability programme named On Purpose, which will be rolled out amongst its portfolio of 11 destination hotels and resorts.

As part of the programme, the company plans to practice carbon offsetting, elimination of single-use materials, reduction in water usage and waste diversion.

The properties under the programme include the Camelback Resort in Pennsylvania,; Vespera Resort in Pismo Beach, California; Fairmont Grand Del Mar; Silverado Resort and Spa and Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina.

While the program’s name and framework are new, it supports the current environmental programmes of the company.

Asset Management West senior vice-president Ian Pullan said: “All of our properties have increasingly adopted green practices in recent years – making dramatic improvements – but we are thrilled to make it official by introducing this forward-thinking new platform.

“Focused on reducing KSL Resorts’ overall carbon footprint, On Purpose was carefully designed to drive positive change and reduce carbon emissions, by both guests and staff, via four core initiatives.

Pullan claims that On Purpose expands KSL Resorts’ practices by implementing and improving science-based, measurable and intentional practices.

Furthermore, Pullan has disclosed that each KSL Resorts resort will develop – or have formed – an onsite sustainability committee and choose a suitable local nature conservation partner.

US-based Asset Management West will be in charge of the programme.
