Radisson Blu Bengaluru Outer Ring Road in India has been recognised with the LEED Zero Carbon Certification, marking an achievement in the hotel’s commitment to sustainability.

Developed by the US Green Building Council, the certification highlights the hotel’s success in reaching net-zero carbon emissions from energy consumption by either avoiding or offsetting emissions over 12 months.

Last year, Radisson Blu Bengaluru was also the first hotel in India to receive the LEED V 4.1 Platinum Certificate for operations and maintenance of an existing building.

Radisson Blu Bengaluru Outer Ring Road chairman Austin Roach said: “It is indeed heartening to see that our consistent and sincere efforts to protect and preserve the environment are being recognised by some of the world’s leading institutions that are themselves working to accelerate impactful change.

“Once we were awarded the LEED V 4.1 Platinum Certificate, we set our sights on achieving net-zero goals—the LEED Zero Carbon Certification is proof of the entire hotel team’s tireless and enthusiastic support of our environmental goals.”

The hotel has implemented several measures to diminish its carbon footprint, including investments in renewable energy and innovation.

The hotel is entirely powered by green energy sourced from its solar plant, and most guest commutes are facilitated by electric vehicles (EVs) that charge using the hotel’s solar energy.

An in-house biogas plant at Radisson Blu Bengaluru converts waste into biogas for the staff canteen and produces high-quality organic sludge for garden fertilisation.

This initiative has enabled the hotel to achieve complete circularity in organic waste management, setting a precedent in India’s hospitality industry.

In its efforts to eliminate single-use plastic, the hotel has installed a water bottling plant, avoiding over one tonne of plastic waste annually by refilling glass bottles for guest rooms, restaurants, and banquet facilities.

The hotel also has a comprehensive rainwater capture and reuse system, with more than 40% of the roof area dedicated to rainwater storage that is then filtered for domestic use.

The hotel’s commitment to water conservation extends to its laundry operations, where 100% of the water is recycled.

A 40 kilolitre-per-day effluent treatment plant (ETP) recycles all laundry water, which is then processed in a sewage treatment plant and subjected to ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis to meet quality standards for reuse.
