The hotel is scheduled to reopen in 2029 and is positioned to become the only five-star hotel in Innsbruck, Tyrol.

Built in 1869, the Grand Hotel Europa is located opposite the city’s central train station.

According to Minor Hotels, the property has hosted guests including Queen Elizabeth II, Albert II of Monaco and The Rolling Stones.

Following redevelopment, the hotel is planned to offer around 120 rooms. The renovation programme includes additional floors, a rooftop bar, a restaurant and bar with external access.

The revamped property is also expected to feature a wellness area, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and meeting and event facilities.

Additionally, the project includes the restoration and reuse of the Baroque Hall as an events venue.

Minor Hotels aims to appeal to both international visitors and local residents with the renovated hotel.

The agreement has been signed with Dr Ernst Hutterer, the owner of the property, with Christie & Co supporting the operator search process.

Minor Hotels Europe & Americas CEO Gonzalo Aguilar said: “This signing reflects our strategy of growing with distinctive assets in key urban destinations across Europe. NH Collection is a brand particularly well suited to iconic hotels such as this one, where heritage, location and quality of experience come together in a compelling way.

“We see strong potential in this project and in its ability to create long-term value for our partners, guests and the destination.”

Minor Hotels currently operates eight hotels in Vienna, Salzburg and Graz. The Innsbruck signing extends the group’s footprint into another key Austrian destination.
