The 26th ICEHOTEL has opened near the town of Jukkasjärvi, Sweden.

Themed around animals and films, it features 55 temporary rooms, a church and a bar.

The hotel also includes 19 art suites, which are built from ice and snow harvested from Sweden’s national river Torne.

Each room has been created by different artists, with designs chosen from 130 proposals submitted worldwide.

The suites are handcrafted by different artists, working either individually or in groups.

"Every year, the ICEHOTEL is built using 4,000t of natural ice."

The ice sculptures inside the custom suites include a 3m tall ice elephant, a peacock, a room full of flying sheep, and a 1970’s love capsule.

From December to April, the ICEHOTEL predicts it will serve 26,550 drinks to guests.

Every year, the hotel is built using 4,000t of natural ice, in a period around 48,000hr.

The amount of snow required to build the hotel is enough to make 700 million snowballs.

Each frozen chandelier is carved from 1,000 hand-cut ice crystals.

ICEHOTEL has also announced plans to open a permanent building to serve guests all year round. The building will be snow-laden in winter and covered with green grass in summer.

Previous constructions featured furniture sculpted from single blocks of ice, a Frankenstein-themed room, and a recreation of Parisian rooftops.
