Dash

Crowne Plaza San Jose Silicon Valley hotel has introduced Dash, a new hotel delivery robot that is designed to deliver snacks, toothbrushes and other amenities to hotel guests.

California-based company Savioke created the latest gadget for the hospitality industry.

Dash is 3ft tall and weighs less than 100lb. It is capable of navigating between floors and can use the hotel elevator through a special Wi-Fi connection.

“Given the hotel’s location in the heart of Silicon Valley, I expect our guests to be impressed by the technological sophistication of the robot.”

Dash phones the guest first, after which it delivers the requested items, goes back to the front desk and docks itself into its own charging station.

The company previously introduced Relay, a similar looking robot that delivers things securely and efficiently to guests.

With Dash, Savioke tried to improved autonomy, and the design has enabled the company to scale in response to demand.

Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts Americas Brand Management vice-president Gina LaBarre said: “Given the hotel’s location in the heart of Silicon Valley, I expect our guests to be impressed by the technological sophistication of the robot.”

Savioke CEO Steve Cousins said: “With more than 300 guest rooms, this is the largest hotel to use our robot technology, and as Dash becomes a fixture at the hotel, we look to hearing some great stories from guests and staff alike.”

The hotel group said that based on the success of its testing, it will decide whether to roll out the robot to other properties.
