British hotel chain InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a deal to open its first Holiday Inn Express hotel in Gibraltar.

IHG will operate the hotel, set to open in mid-2017, under a franchise agreement with G. & J. B. Hotels.

The hotel will be located on the Devil’s Tower Road, close to Gibraltar’s international airport, city centre, marina and coastline.

"Holiday Inn Express is IHG’s growth engine."

It will be the latest addition to the company’s Holiday Inn Express hotel brand, which offers the latest technology, larger beds, modern continental Express café and bar.

The company highlighted that it developed Holiday Inn Express brand’s guest experience with industry-leading experts.

The new 120-room hotel will house a restaurant, bar and meeting facilities.

IHG Southern Europe director of development Hylko Versteeg said: "Holiday Inn Express Gibraltar will be the first internationally branded mid-market hotel to have a presence in the territory in decades.

"Holiday Inn Express is IHG’s growth engine and we’re opening more hotels under this brand in Europe than any others.

"We look forward to working with G. & J.B. Hotels 2014 Ltd for the first time, and hope this is the start of a long and fruitful partnership."

IHG currently has more than 2,400 Holiday Inn Express hotels worldwide.
