InterContinental Hotels has entered a management agreement with Taisei Kanko Australia for its Holiday Inn Cairns Harbourside property located in the northern end of the Esplanade in Cairns.
The hotel is currently operated by Australia-based Mercure Cairns Harbourside. Prior to opening as Holiday Inn, it will undergo renovation.
The location of the hotel will make it easy for guests to access key tourist spots, which includes the Great Barrier Reef. The hotel is located close to Cairns Airport and Cairns waterfront and harbour.
With the addition of Holiday Inn Cairns Harbourside, the brand will have a total of eleven Holiday Inn hotels in Australia. In total, the company has 24 hotels across three brands including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.
The 173-room hotel features an all-day dining restaurant, a pool, spa and a bar. The hotel will also be a part of the company’s Kids Eat and Stay Free programme, under which children under the age of 12 get all-inclusive meals during their stay.
IHG Franchising AMEA Karin Sheppard said: "Today, in partnership with Taisei Kanko Australia Pty Ltd, we are bringing Holiday Inn to Cairns.
"Domestic travel continues to pick up and as the gateway to one of the world’s top tourist attractions, Cairns is a key city for us in Australia.
"We are confident the hotel’s location and facilities will make Holiday Inn Cairns Harbourside one of the top choices for people travelling to Cairns."
