InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is set to open Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side in Germany, expanding IHG’s presence in the country.

Owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), the new hotel will be operated under a franchise agreement with IHG’s multiple development agreement (MDA) partner Tristar Hotel Group.

Scheduled for opening in the second half of 2017, the hotel will join Hotel Indigo Berlin, Alexanderplatz and Hotel Indigo Berlin, Ku’damm.

According to IHG, the latest agreement will mark the eighth development under the company’s MDA agreement with Tristar.

Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side will feature 119 rooms, a gym, restaurant and a rooftop bar with an outdoor terrace.

Located in one of the most creative districts in Berlin, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, the hotel will offer easy access to a lively cultural scene and popular entertainment options.

In addition, it will be part of AEG’s Mercedes Platz, which offers numerous restaurants and bars, a 4,000 capacity event hall and an advanced movie theatre.

Expected to open in 2018, the complex is expected to have 20 million visitors annually.

IHG doubled its number of signings in Germany last year when compared to 2013. The company is also planning to double the number of hotels in Germany either open or in the pipeline over the next five years.

IHG recently opened Holiday Inn Cairns Harbourside on The Esplanade in Australia.
