InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened Holiday Inn Cairns Harbourside on The Esplanade in Australia.

The hotel, which previously operated as Mercure Cairns Harbourside, underwent renovation before reopening as the brand’s 11th Holiday Inn in the country.

Guests can relax in modern rooms, including one bedroom suites with stylish decor, contemporary bathrooms and private balconies.

Other facilities include a swimming pool and dining options from the hotel’s famous Teshi’s restaurant.

Located close to the Cairns Central Business District (CBD), the hotel offers a free shuttle service for business travellers, and features four meeting rooms, with the capacity for up to 150 people in the largest room and a 24-hour business centre for events.

Families will be offered the Holiday Inn brand’s Kids Stay and Eat Free programme, including dishes from the new and improved nutritious kids menu, developed in partnership with Nutrition Australia. The menu will soon be available at the hotel.

IHG currently has a total of 25 hotels across three brands, including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn in Australia. The brand aims to open six more over the next three to five years.

IHG signed its first hotel in Tasmania, Crowne Plaza Hobart, and intends to open Holiday Inn Express Sydney Macquarie Park in 2016. This will be the first Holiday Inn Express in Australia and the first hotel for the brand in Perth will open with InterContinental Perth in 2017.
