
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has begun its 18-month-long, $175m renovation project at InterContinental New York Barclay, which is said to transform the landmark property into the Midtown East luxury hotel of choice for elite travellers.
The architecture firm Stonehill + Taylor and interior designers HOK have developed the new design of hotel to upgrade the Federalist-style property.
After the completion of renovation, the hotel will have around 700 guestrooms, a new InterContinental Club Lounge and a fully refurbished lobby with a new gin bar and restaurant.
The InterContinental meetings platform and the two elegant ballrooms will offer an outstanding venue for corporate meetings, InterContinental said.
InterContinental New York Barclay general manager and regional director of operations Hervé Houdré said: "We are delighted to work with our partners, Constellation Barclay Holding US LLC, to manage the extensive renovation of our classic New York hotel.
"The result will be the rebirth of a luxury hotel that reflects its elegance and architectural grandeur, as well as the classic taste and style of its sophisticated, international neighbourhood."
