Marriott International will expand its Courtyard by Marriott property portfolio with the opening of a second new-look hotel in Cologne, Germany, on 31 March 2014.
The 236-room Courtyard Cologne, which represents the brand’s 45th hotel in Europe, is part of the company’s plan to open its 1,000th hotel worldwide in 2014.
Located in the centre of the Kunibertsviertel neighbourhood on the former Afri-Cola grounds, the new hotel is in close proximity to the Rhine River and a range of shops and restaurants.
Marriott International Europe president and managing director Amy McPherson said the group is excited to introduce a new Courtyard hotel to Cologne to offer guests a refreshed hotel experience.
"We have a strong pipeline for the brand with openings planned for Poland, The Netherlands and Russia in the next couple of years," McPherson added.
Courtyard Cologne features lobby space with free Wi-Fi, seating space for working, meeting or socialising and an interactive GoBoard screen with the latest news, weather and local information.
The hotel has a 24hr market and ‘Eat.Drink.Connect’ bistro offering a range of meals, snacks and drinks.
Blumhoffer Hotelbesitz Dagobertstrasse owner and director Alexander Flach said that the Courtyard Cologne is the company’s first hotel investment.
"We are excited to be working with such an experienced and well-established company as Marriott International and are looking forward to a successful future together," Flach added.
The hotel is expected to deliver a new hotel experience for business travellers with Courtyard’s new European design, which was introduced at Courtyard Aberdeen Airport Hotel in 2013.
