Marriott International is to open a new $45m hotel in Haiti under a management agreement with ownership group Unigestion Holding, a Digicel Group subsidiary.

The 173-room Port-au-Prince Marriott Hotel, which is located in the southern part of the country on the Gulf of Gonave, will offer 168 rooms and five suites, with features such as premium bedding and a land area network, and a casual restaurant, a lobby bar and a lounge.

The property will provide 4,606ft2 of flexible meeting space, a 1,614ft2 fitness centre, a swimming pool and retail space.

Digicel Group will design and build the hotel, and has chosen the flagship Marriott Hotels & Resorts brand as its operating partner.

Construction of the hotel will begin in 2012, with the opening in mid-2014.
