Hotel company Oberoi Group and its India-based joint venture (JV) partner Subramanya Construction & Development Company (SCDCL) have entered into a deal with the Maldives Government to build a luxury resort in the region.
SCDCL will make an investment towards the acquisition and development of the resort.
SCDCL chairman and MD KN Balasubramanyam said: "A luxury resort in Maldives requires expertise in design and operations of world-class standards. The Oberoi Group, which is rated as the best luxury hotel brand in the world, is well suited for this development.
"We look forward to working with The Oberoi Group to create more of such luxurious offerings globally and would like to say that this extraordinary project will make a major contribution to our long-term partnership."
Established in 1934, the Oberoi Group currently operates 30 luxury hotels worldwide. The company also has two luxury Nile Cruisers and a motor vessel in the backwaters of Kerala, India, under the Oberoi brand name.
Oberoi Group executive chairman P R S Oberoi said: "We look forward to bringing the Oberoi hospitality to Maldives."
"The resort will reflect the legendary Oberoi service delivered by an attentive and caring team, making it the preferred choice for luxury travellers."
Last October, the group stated that it would manage a luxury beach resort in Ajman, UAE, with opening scheduled in the second quarter of this year.
Additionally, the company signed management contracts for two new luxury properties in Doha, Qatar: a 250-room luxury hotel, which is under development in the West Bay area of Doha and another is a 148-room luxury serviced apartment building located in Lusail, Doha.
