Starwood Hotels has announced the opening of Sheraton Barra Rio de Janeiro hotel in Rio de Janeiro, making it the second hotel in the city for the brand.

Starwood said the new hotel would operate under a management agreement with Condominio do Edificio Sheraton Barra.

The leisure company also announced the hotel will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation, which will include re-designing guest rooms, suites, the lobby and pool.

"The hotel features 292 guest rooms with ocean views, an all-day dining restaurant named Terral and 1,000m² of meeting and event space."

The initial phase of the renovation is expected to be completed within the next two years and the final phase is expected to be completed by 2018. It will include redesigning all public areas, Sheraton Fitness and the restaurant.

The hotel lobby will provide complimentary wireless and broadband Internet to guests.

Located in Barra da Tijuca, Sheraton Barra Rio de Janeiro is close to popular beaches and shopping malls. The hotel is also close to Riocentro, which is one of South America’s largest convention centres, covering more than 80,000m².
