Starwood Hotels has announced its plans to open an Aloft-brand hotel in the Bassett Tower, one of El Paso’s most iconic buildings, which has been mostly vacant since 2007.

The hospital group will renovate the 15-story art-deco style structure, reopening it as a Starwood Aloft Hotel by late 2016 or early 2017.

"Aloft is a great match for the dynamic city of El Paso and will appeal to the next generation of travellers."

The hotel, to be located in El Paso, Texas, is owned by Bassett Partners EP and managed by Aimbridge Hospitality.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide specialty select brands senior VP Brian McGuinness said: "Aloft is a great match for the dynamic city of El Paso and will appeal to the next generation of travellers with its urban design, live music at the W XYZ bar and unbeatable location at the heart of Downtown."

Hotel amenities will include 100 ‘loft-like’ rooms, an indoor pool, a 24-hour fitness centre, the W XYZ bar and a 3,000ft² conference space ideal for both business meetings and social gatherings.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide North America Development senior vice president Allison Reid said: "We look forward to adding El Paso to our growing list of destinations for the popular Aloft brand.
