Jastar Capital subsidiary Custom House City has submitted a proposal for the redevelopment of the Custom House building in London, UK, into a 179-room hotel.
Located in central London, Custom House was an integral part of the city’s global trading network.
Once approved, the redevelopment will see the property turn into a hotel, complete with a dedicated spa, health facilities, and dining venues.
The new plans, crafted by Orms architects, aim to transform the site into a community-focused destination. The building was vacated in 2021 and acquired by Jastar Capital in 2023, through its subsidiary.
A prior development application was turned down on appeal in 2022 by the Planning Inspectorate, following an indication from the City of London Corporation that it would have refused the proposal.
The redevelopment plan includes a cultural strategy that promises to weave a “Golden Thread” through significant historic areas.

This strategy encompasses a new public ground-floor pathway through the former King’s Warehouse, featuring historical exhibits.
Additionally, the proposal outlines the creation of a new public quayside, designed to enhance the Thames Path and provide year-round public access.
The proposed amenities at the property extend to a café and other community spaces.
