Hotel chain Scandic Hotels has signed a lease agreement with Skanska for a new hotel in downtown Sundsvall, Sweden.

Dubbed as Scandic Sundsvall Central, the new hotel will feature 210-room, a restaurant and bar area on the ground floor.

Located in the city’s harbour area, the hotel will also feature spa and wellness facilities, gym and meeting rooms with view of the Bothnian Sea on first floor.

Scandic Sundsvall Central is slated to open in 2024.

Scandic Hotels Sweden head Peter Jangbratt said: “Scandic’s new hotel in Sundsvall will be a modern and attractive meeting place ideally located in an exciting area where we can see a growing demand for hotel accommodations. We’ve been developing the hotel together with Skanska for the past two years and naturally, it feels extremely positive to be further strengthening our hotel offering in the city.”

Scandic Sundsvall Central will be located next to Sundsvall’s harbour and railway station.

The hotel’s frame, facade and interior will all be made of wood to achieve environmental certification LEED Gold.

The property will feature energy-efficient materials, solar panels on the roof and is expected to be 100% climate-neutral during its lifetime, Scandic Hotels stated.

Skanska Sverige regional manager Joakim Åkesson said: “It is gratifying to now have Scandic as a tenant – a company that shares our values in terms of sustainability and with which we have worked closely in other projects.”

Scandic has two properties in Sundsvall with a total of 312 rooms.
