Hospitality franchising company Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has signed an exclusive development agreement with Soliteight Hotel Projects to bring its Super 8 by Wyndham brand to the Iberian Peninsula, covering Spain and Portugal.

The partnership will see Soliteight, an existing Wyndham franchisee based in Portugal, undertake the development and launch of 40 Super 8 hotels across the two countries over the next ten years.

The introduction of the Super 8 brand aligns with the tourism growth in Spain and Portugal, as well as the demand for “high-quality economy” accommodations.

The first of these Super 8 hotels is scheduled to open its doors in Leiria, Portugal, by the fourth quarter of 2027.

Subsequent locations are planned for prime spots in both Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, strategically placed near key travel hubs, retail areas, and along “popular” transportation routes in smaller cities.

Emphasising efficiency and sustainability, many of the new hotels will feature smart modular construction.

Wyndham currently operates 14 Super 8 hotels within the EMEA region, with properties in Germany, the UK, and Saudi Arabia.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts EMEA president Dimitris Manikis said: “Bringing Super 8 to Spain and Portugal is a strategic move to make quality, affordable travel more accessible. Southern Europe has a growing demand for reliable, budget-friendly accommodations, and our collaboration with Soliteight allows us to meet that need. By introducing a trusted brand in key destinations, we ensure travellers can enjoy great value without sacrificing quality. We’re looking forward to bringing Super 8’s signature blend of affordability, modern comfort and sustainability to these vibrant markets.”

Soliteight chief executive Rui Alpalhão said: “Spain and Portugal continue to lag other European markets in branded economy hotels, with a 10% gap in budget brand penetration, despite a 142% surge in RevPAR since 2019. We are delighted to partner with Wyndham as the exclusive developer for Super 8 in Iberia, addressing the need for well-branded economy hotels that offer comfort, consistency, and value for both international and domestic travellers.”
