W Hotels, a subsidiary of hospitality company Marriott International, has opened W Melbourne, its second hotel in Australia.
Located at 408 Flinders Lane, the new hotel in Melbourne comprises 294 guest rooms and 29 suites.
Designed by Australian architecture and interior design firm Hachem, W Melbourne comprises 828m2 of conference, meeting and event space equipped with fully adaptable conference equipment and audio-visual facilities.
It also features four restaurants that include Warabi and Lollo as well as bars, café and fitness gym along with WET pool.
Marriott International Brand Marketing and Brand Management Asia Pacific vice president Jennie Toh said: “Melbourne is the perfect locale for the playfully luxe spirit of the W brand and we could not be more excited to unveil this highly anticipated hotel to the world.
“From its unique, locally inspired design to its eclectic lineup of restaurants and bars, W Melbourne is destined to redefine the luxury hotel scene here and become a must-go destination for travelers and local scene-stealers alike.”
Each room in the new hotel features floor-to-ceiling windows with skyline views along with a wall graphic of a fairy wren, a bird native to Australia.
In November last year, Marriott signed an agreement with Magellan Development Group to introduce its luxury brand St. Regis Hotels & Resorts in Chicago, the US.
Previously, the property was under construction as the luxury Wanda Vista Hotel and Vista Tower. They will be rebranded as the St. Regis Chicago and the Residences at the St. Regis Chicago.
The 101-storey building will comprise 191 hotel rooms, including 33 spacious suites, and 393 branded residences along with several dining options.
