UK-based hospitality group Whitbread has announced the practical completion of Premiere Inn at Morrisons Quay in Cork, Ireland.

The first Premier Inn developed outside of Dublin is scheduled to open early next year.

The 187-room property is developed by Greenleaf, Warren Private, and constructed by Elliott Group.

Premier Inn Cork, situated on the former Moore’s hotel site along the River Lee, is part of a mixed-use development.

Construction of Premier Inn Cork commenced in August 2021, along with three own-door office buildings, which are expected to finish this month.

The recruitment process is currently underway for the Cork Premier Inn team, offering about 50 permanent positions at the upcoming hotel.

The exact opening date and initial room rate for Premier Inn Cork will be confirmed in January 2024, the company said.

Whitbread development manager for Ireland Matt Gent said: “We are counting down the days until we can welcome guests to our first Premier Inn outside of Dublin in the beautiful city of Cork.

“The location at Morrisons Quay is perfect for our customers, right in the heart of things, and with so much going on in Cork all year round, I am very confident the hotel will trade well as soon as the doors open.”

Elliott Group managing director Darragh Elliott said: “Reaching Practical Completion this week is a major milestone for our team in Cork who have shown exceptional commitment to preserving the integrity of the building and upholding the high standards we are known for.”

Morrisons Quay marks the third collaboration between Whitbread, Greenleaf, and Warren Private to secure new Premier Inn locations in Ireland.

The team was responsible for developing the first Premier Inn in Dublin City Centre in 2021 and acquiring a site for a 100-bedroom hotel at Ushers Quay in Dublin 8 earlier this year.

In October 2023, Whitbread opened its first 100% renewable energy-powered property, Premier Inn Swindon Town Centre, in the UK.
