French hospitality group Accor has partnered with Italy’s integrated tourism operator AG Group to bring its luxury hotel brand Sofitel to Genoa.

Scheduled to open in 2027, the new 120-room Sofitel Genoa Waterfront hotel will feature 120 rooms and is part of the broader Waterfront di Levante redevelopment scheme.

Orion and CDS Holding are involved as investors and developers connected to the Waterfront di Levante project.

The hotel will be designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, an architecture studio led by architect Renzo Piano.

The Sofitel Genoa Waterfront hotel will offer an all-day dining restaurant, a gym, a swimming pool, a lobby lounge bar, and a pool bar. The hotel will also include two meeting rooms for business travellers.

Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery and Emblems CEO Maud Bailly said: “Italy is one of Sofitel's most important markets in southern Europe, and the opening of Sofitel Genoa Waterfront marks a milestone in our growth strategy, after the success of Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese.

"We are delighted to partner again with AG Group to bring a new icon of French Zest and luxury to the Liguria region, where rich history and vibrant culture meet the Mediterranean spirit.”

The hotel’s location will provide access to high-speed rail links, which are expected to reduce the travel time between Genoa and Milan to 53 minutes by 2026.

The selection of AG Group as the operating partner followed a consultancy process overseen by Harry Mills Sciò, CEO of hotel advisory services specialist Fortvny.

AG Group founder and president Andrea Girolami said: “This project not only reinforces our commitment to luxury hospitality in Italy but also showcases our dedication to creating destinations that blend cultural heritage, world-class design, and memorable guest experiences.”

With this agreement, Sofitel expands its presence in Italy, where it already has a property in Rome and additional developments are underway in Milan, Venice and Palermo.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Accor has shifted its global property portfolio to Oracle's OPERA Cloud property management system (PMS) to improve and streamline its hotel management operations.
