AlUla Development Company (UDC) has started construction on NUMAJ, a 250-key hotel set to open in 2027.

This initiative constitutes a significant movement in the ongoing development of AlUla, with recent activity including a site visit attended by managing director John Pagano, Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) CEO Abeer AlAkel, and other senior leaders.

NUMAJ, which Marriott International will operate under its Autograph Collection hotel brand, signals the project’s progression from planning to execution.

Architectural company GioForma is responsible for the hotel’s design. The development will combine resort living with cultural and lifestyle elements.

The hotel will provide a range of amenities, including five dining options, wellness facilities, and business and leisure areas.

Sustainability goals for the project include pursuing a LEED Gold rating, with measures in place such as greywater reuse, local material sourcing, and UV-resistant building features.

Efforts also include water-saving landscaping and compliance with AlUla’s Dark Sky policy to limit artificial night lighting.

Pagano said: “NUMAJ marks a clear step forward in our delivery agenda. As we move into construction, our focus is on executing high-quality, investment-ready developments that strengthen AlUla’s positioning, while shaping distinctive hospitality experiences that enhance its long-term appeal as a global destination and a vibrant community.”

A subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, UDC’s activities form part of broader investment and tourism efforts connected to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which seeks to promote economic diversification and sustainable tourism.

Senior officials attended the ground-breaking ceremony, reflecting continued coordination between the UDC and the RCU as physical projects are implemented.
