The Ascott has opened Harris Hotel & Conventions Sunshine Penang, introducing the Harris brand to Malaysia.

The property is located within the Sunshine Central mixed-use development in Ayer Itam, around a 30-minute drive from Penang International Airport.

The hotel offers 284 keys across several categories, including Harris Rooms, Harris Suites and Harris Family Suites, with layouts aimed at both short-term guests and larger groups.

Facilities at the hotel include Harris Bistro, an all-day dining venue, a separate lounge for food and beverage service, and leisure amenities comprising a swimming pool, playground and gym.

For business and social events, the hotel features a pillarless Grand Ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,000 guests for banquet-style events.

The property will also offer access to Sunshine Central’s retail and lifestyle components and is supported by on-site parking.

Ascott Malaysia country general manager Mondi Mecja said: “The debut of Harris in Malaysia is an important milestone for Ascott as we continue to expand our brand portfolio across the country.

“Penang's strong position as a tourism, healthcare and business events destination makes it an ideal location for the brand's first Malaysian property.

Earlier this year, Ascott opened Sky Vista, a resort tower in Vietnam and the second and final phase of Lasong Hotel & Villas Sam Son by The Unlimited Collection.
