Marriott International has entered an agreement to introduce the first Autograph Collection safari camp in Serengeti in the third quarter of 2025.

The Mapito Safari Camp represents the brand’s expansion into nature-based travel and will offer a safari experience in Tanzania’s renowned wilderness.

Marriott International Europe, Middle East & Africa chief development officer Jerome Briet said: “Mapito Safari Camp will mark a defining moment for Autograph Collection as we introduce the brand’s first safari experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations.

“The Serengeti’s scale, beauty, and cultural heritage will make an unforgettable setting for a property that will embody the individuality and character that Autograph Collection is known for.”

Located near the Fort Ikoma gate of the Serengeti National Park, Mapito Safari Camp will be situated along the path of the Great Migration.

This strategic position will allow guests to witness the annual movement of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope from May to July, as well as enjoy the resident wildlife, including lions, elephants, and giraffes.

The camp is set to feature 16 tented suites and a two-bedroom villa, each with an outdoor deck, fire pit, and a retractable roof designed for stargazing—a first in the region.

The camp's amenities will include a spa, fitness centre, swimming pool, and multiple dining venues, with The Boma restaurant offering an experience inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.

Sustainable practices will be another focus of the camp's operations, aiming to support conservation efforts and reduce the environmental footprint.

Guests at Mapito Safari Camp will have the opportunity to engage in various activities such as nocturnal safaris, hot air balloon adventures, and bush dining.

Mapito Safari Camp developer Rishen Patel said: “We are excited to collaborate with Marriott International to bring Autograph Collection to the Serengeti.

“This camp will offer an intimate and immersive experience that reflects both the natural wonder of the region and the timeless storytelling and craftsmanship of the brand.”

With more than 330 hotels worldwide, the Autograph Collection is part of Marriott International's extensive portfolio of 30 brands, which includes over 9,300 properties in 144 countries and territories.

This announcement follows the earlier launch of the Tribute Portfolio's Turaco Ngorongoro Valley hotel, marking Marriott International's growth in Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit.
