Boutique hotel group Épik Collection has launched its latest project SonoLux, Quebec’s first contemporary art hotel in Old Montreal, Canada.
The eight-storey property occupies the historic National Trust building near Notre-Dame Basilica.
The SonoLux Hotel features 36 guest rooms priced between C$400 and C$700 ($284 and $498) and two on-site dining venues. Throughout its public areas and accommodation floors, the venue integrates an ongoing artistic programme that renews every six months.
The hotel’s inaugural exhibition is curated by non-profit art organisation PHI managing director and chief curator Cheryl Sim. It is titled 'Seeds of R/Evolution' and will run until April 2026.
Sim said: “The works presented in Seeds of R/Evolution remind us that together, we can transcend the challenges of our current time. The artists featured are constant gardeners who inspire us to evolve through joyful acts of resistance.”
Ten artists contribute works across media such as digital animation, video games, live action, and documentary art.
A permanent digital installation called The Cosmic Code is displayed in the lobby area.
Created by Behaviour Interactive in partnership with SonoLux, the visual piece responds to both visitor movement and music throughout the day.
DJ Fred Everything developed the venue’s sonic identity and the architectural work was led by Geiger Huot with interior design by Zabb Design.
Melatti Construction acted as partner for project development and Solotech installed audiovisual systems that support rotating exhibitions at the property.
Épik Collection vice-president Daniel Gallant said: “SonoLux is an innovative project that steps outside the usual boundaries of hospitality and dining. It's a living space in constant evolution, where creativity unfolds through artistic exhibitions, culinary experiences, and musical explorations.
“We hope that a stay at SonoLux becomes an experience whose echoes continue long after our guests have departed.”
