Luxury hotel group Four Seasons has partnered with Milan-based hotel developer Gruppo Statuto to launch a new property in Berlin, Germany.
As part of the collaboration, the partners plan to convert the Hotel de Rome into Four Seasons Hotel Berlin. The hotel is slated to open in late 2027.
Through this development, Four Seasons is set to re-enter the Berlin hospitality market after 20 years.
The property will continue operating as Hotel de Rome until 2026 and be managed by Gruppo Statuto. The company will also oversee a substantial renovation.
Select services and amenities are expected to remain available throughout the refurbishment.
The redevelopment will see the building’s historic façade preserved while its interior undergoes a significant transformation.
Plans include approximately 140 guest rooms and suites, new dining venues, and bar areas.
The redesign will draw on both historic and contemporary influences, with architectural company Humbert & Poyet guiding the project’s vision.
Situated in the Mitte district on Bebelplatz, the hotel places guests within close proximity of Berlin landmarks such as St Hedwig’s Cathedral, Unter den Linden State Opera, Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt, and Museum Island.
The location offers access to both cultural attractions and transport links, with Berlin Brandenburg Airport less than an hour away and Hauptbahnhof train station 15 minutes from the site.
Originally built in the late 19th century as the headquarters of Dresdner Bank, the building was repurposed as a hotel in 2006.
Upon reopening as Four Seasons Hotel Berlin, visitors will find updated spa and fitness facilities occupying former vault spaces and more than 1,000m² of indoor and outdoor event space.
General manager Christian Poda has been appointed to lead the transition and subsequent operation of Four Seasons Hotel Berlin.
Four Seasons president and chief executive officer Alejandro Reynal said: “We are proud to mark our return to Germany, reestablishing Four Seasons as the leading luxury hospitality offering in the market.
“Berlin is an important European destination to add to our global portfolio, and we look forward to collaborating once again with Gruppo Statuto, with whom we have an exceptional track record of introducing Four Seasons legendary service and experiences to some of the region’s most dynamic destinations.”
The collaboration extends an existing partnership between Four Seasons and Gruppo Statuto. The firms have previously worked together on projects in Italy including properties in Milan and Taormina, as well as an upcoming hotel in Venice.
Gruppo Statuto owner Giuseppe Statuto said: “Hotel de Rome has a rich history in Berlin and will have an exciting future in its next chapter as a Four Seasons experience.
“Building on the success of our projects together in Italy, we will elevate the guest experience while thoughtfully enhancing the hotel's existing character.”
Last month, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico reopened following the completion of an extensive upgrade and renovation programme.
