Hospitality group Hilton has signed a franchise agreement with Brighton Corporation to launch its Curio Collection brand in Kyoto, Japan.
The rebranded Kyoto Brighton Hotel under Curio Collection by Hilton is expected to open in late 2028 following a full renovation. It will become the second property under the brand in Japan and the first in Kyoto.
The agreement allows Brighton to continue managing the property after its rebranding.
The renovated hotel will offer around 160 guest rooms, four dining venues including one serving kaiseki cuisine, a banquet space for up to 240 attendees, and a fitness centre.
Brighton president Tsutomu Yasuda said: “We are delighted to sign a franchise agreement between Brighton Corporation and Hilton, a global leader in the hospitality industry.
“The Curio Collection brand, with its emphasis on distinct character and strong local connections, aligns perfectly with the qualities and strengths of Kyoto Brighton Hotel. We believe this synergy will allow us to create a truly one-of-a-kind hotel that will satisfy guests from around the world.”
Brighton operates four hotels, including the existing Kyoto Brighton Hotel and Urayasu Brighton Hotel Tokyo Bay, and has an established presence in Kyoto’s hospitality sector.
Curio Collection by Hilton includes more than 190 hotels worldwide.
The Hilton brand launched its first Japanese hotel in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture in 2018, and has recently expanded into Thailand and China.
Hilton Japan and Micronesia development vice-president Hirohisa Fujimoto said: “Hilton is expanding its footprint in Kyoto, where we currently operate five hotels under four brands.

Hilton recently announced that the Blossom Hotel in Houston, Texas, had joined its Curio Collection brand.
