Marcus Hotels & Resorts has unveiled the refreshed design of Hilton Milwaukee in the US after the completion of a $42m renovation programme.

The project, which marks the largest remodelling initiative in the hotel’s history, included substantial updates to the lobby, guest rooms, meeting and event spaces.

Located in downtown Milwaukee, the hotel now features 554 renovated guest rooms and more than 34,000ft² of revamped meeting facilities.

Its two-storey lobby retains its original crystal chandeliers, marble floors, geometric motifs and woodwork.

Updates to The Monarch Lounge bar include new carpeting and a fireplace while maintaining existing design elements such as crystal lighting fixtures.

According to the company, renovations extended to the hotel’s ballrooms and meeting rooms, which now feature restored chandeliers, antique mirrors, gold-leaf decor and upgraded lighting controls and signage.

All guest rooms underwent refurbishment with new furnishings, improved lighting inspired by Art Deco design, motion-sensor technology and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Guest bathrooms received new marble surfaces, lighted mirrors and fixtures manufactured by Kohler Co.

First opened as the Schroeder Hotel in 1928, the building was designed by architects Holabird and Roche. The ownership of the hotel changed several times before Marcus Hotels & Resorts acquired it in 1972.

The property was previously known as Marc Plaza before adopting its current name in 1995. The hotel became a member of Historic Hotels of America in 2011.

In September, Marcus unveiled plans to relaunch the west wing of the Hilton Milwaukee as The Marc Hotel.

Hilton Milwaukee is situated near several city attractions, including the Baird Center, Theater District and Fiserv Forum.

Marcus Hotels & Resorts president Michael Evans said: “Hilton Milwaukee has been a treasured icon in the city for nearly a century.

“With this renovation, we are proud to preserve this property’s legacy while warmly welcoming the next generation of visitors, whether they are coming to Milwaukee for leisure, business, or the latest conference at the expanded Baird Center.”

The hotel’s on-site dining facilities include Milwaukee ChopHouse, The Monarch Lounge, Miller Time Pub & Grill, Starbucks and The Café.
