IHG Hotels & Resorts has entered an agreement with Australia-based builder-developer Urban Property Group to open a Crowne Plaza hotel in Parramatta, Sydney’s second central business district.
Crowne Plaza Parramatta is expected to offer 217 rooms and is slated to open in 2029.
The hotel will be part of a mixed‑use development opposite Parramatta Train Station. It will provide a direct link to the station to ensure convenient access for guests and visitors.
Facilities at the hotel will include an all-day restaurant and a lobby bar, flexible meeting and event spaces, a rooftop infinity pool and an outdoor terrace.
IHG Hotels & Resorts Australasia and Pacific managing director Matt Tripolone said: “We’re delighted to partner with Urban and maximise this exceptional opportunity to bring our world-famous Crowne Plaza brand to Parramatta at a pivotal time in the city’s transformation.
“Western Sydney is one of Australia’s most dynamic growth corridors, underpinned by record levels of infrastructure investment, a flourishing business and government sector, and the arrival of Western Sydney International Airport in 2026.
“Crowne Plaza Parramatta will be a flagship destination for both domestic and international travellers and an important and attractive addition to the city’s evolving skyline.”
The project forms part of Parramatta’s growth as a major commercial, educational, health, and cultural hub.
Recent developments in the area, including the new Powerhouse Parramatta Museum and the extension of the Riverside Theatre precinct, are contributing to increased visitor numbers.
The opening of Western Sydney International Airport is expected to further improve access to the region.
Urban Property Group co-CEO Patrick Elias said: “We are excited to partner with IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring Crowne Plaza Parramatta to life. This marks our first-ever hotel collaboration and will become a striking, defining feature within our mixed-use development when it opens in 2029.”
Crowne Plaza Parramatta will join existing Australian locations, including Sydney Darling Harbour, Melbourne, and Adelaide Mawson Lakes. It brings IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Crowne Plaza footprint in Australia to 14 operating hotels with seven more in development.
The Crowne Plaza brand has 415 hotels open worldwide and 144 properties in the pipeline.
Recently, IHG Hotels & Resorts’ subsidiary Six Senses signed a hotel management agreement with Patience Capital Group for a forthcoming hotel situated at the foot of Mount Myoko in Japan.
