Maison Twenty Seven has launched as a boutique hotel in Santa Monica, US, following the renovation of a villa constructed in 1927.
The restoration combines Mediterranean Revival architecture with modern hotel operations near Santa Monica’s prominent destinations.
Located in a residential area near the Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Pier, the property is recognised as a local historical landmark.
The villa provides 38 studios and one- and two-bedroom residences. Many of these units are equipped with kitchens, and the property caters to guests seeking either short-term or extended stays.
The Embassy living room stands at the centre of the property, designed as a gathering space for guests. Lighting and scents aim to create an intimate atmosphere. Outdoor courtyards offer further spaces for connection throughout the day.
The hotel’s culinary approach focuses on simple dishes made from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. While formal wellness programmes are still being developed, current offerings include bicycles for guest use, morning walking routes, yoga studio introductions, and garden events based on guest interests.
General manager Jimmy Peña brings experience from The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and private estate management. His background includes luxury hospitality, personalisation, and storytelling as a New York Times author.
Peña said: “I don't think first about what guests will see, I think about how they'll feel. For me, hospitality is about turning strangers into friends and friends into family. We want guests to feel instantly at home — seen, known, and genuinely cared for.
