Spanish hotel chain RIU Hotels & Resorts has opened its four-star Riu Plaza property in Toronto, marking the company's entry into the Canadian market.

Designed to cater to leisure and business travellers, the newly constructed 352-room hotel is part of a project that includes two twin skyscrapers, each with 49 floors.

The Riu Plaza Toronto occupies 23 floors of one of the towers while the remaining floors in that building are designated for residential use.

The building’s facade combines two distinct styles: a brick base that matches neighbouring historic housing from the 18th century and an upper glass structure.

The ground floor includes the main lobby and a lobby bar, which serves drinks and snacks throughout the day.

The second floor houses a restaurant that provides a buffet breakfast, which is included in the room rate.

The hotel amenities include a gym and a conference room that can accommodate up to 40 people.

Located in Toronto’s Entertainment District, the hotel is close to many attractions such as the Rogers Centre Stadium, David Pecaut Square, CN Tower, and the Princess of Wales Theatre.

RIU has implemented energy efficiency measures at the property, including cogeneration plants to generate electricity and thermal energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The hotel also executes water-saving initiatives and waste reduction programmes.

Last year, RIU Hotels & Resorts Riu Palace Bavaro reopened after undergoing a comprehensive renovation in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
