Villa San Michele, a Belmond hotel in Florence, Italy, has reopened after an 18-month renovation.

The hotel offers 39 redesigned rooms and suites, the new Villa San Michele Spa by Guerlain, updated gardens and woodlands, new dining options, and the Energy Raising programme of activities in partnership with the Milanese lifestyle brand La DoubleJ.

The refurbishment features 27 suites and 12 rooms designed by Luigi Fragola Architects.

These suites include the two-level Limonaia, with a private plunge pool, and the Botanica, reflecting the villa’s garden heritage.

Artworks within the hotel include murals by Francesca Guicciardini and contributions from Cristina Corvino and other contemporary artists.

The new Villa San Michele Spa by Guerlain occupies the building’s first floor and offers tailored treatments.

Guests enter via the Secret Garden, featuring frescoes by Elena Carozzi. The 10,000m² gardens have been redeveloped by Luca Ghezzi Garden Design.

Additions include an expanded herb garden, an iris section, and a 42m rose path.

Through a collaboration with La DoubleJ, the property has launched the Energy Raising Programme, creating areas such as the Energy Chapel, Sungazing Lounge, and an open-air Yoga Deck.

Restaurants now comprise San Michele Restaurant, San Michele Grill, and a new venue, Antesi, led by chef Alessandro Cozzolino.

Cozzolino said: “Our concept is born from listening to time and nature. There is a moment when every ingredient reaches its maximum expression.

“Our job is to recognise and respect it, creating dishes that listen rather than command, accompanying diners on an experience that becomes a memory.”
