Criterion Capital is “reimagining affordable hospitality” with the unveiling of the first phase of the Zedwell Capsule Hotel in the London Pavilion at Piccadilly Circus in the UK.
The new capsule hotel is designed to cater to leisure and business travellers, groups, schools, and event attendees. It focuses on accessibility, design, comfort, and sustainability, according to the company.
Piccadilly Circus attracts more than 100 million visitors each year, stated Criterion.
Zedwell Capsule Hotel Piccadilly Circus offers around 1,000 individual capsules, with the price of each pod starting from £30 ($40.37) a night. Each capsule is soundproofed and windowless.
The hotel features “ambient lighting, purified airflow, and smart climate control”, said the company.
The property provides communal areas. Guests also have the option of keeping their capsule’s shutter open or closed for privacy.
Shared amenities include bathrooms with private shower stalls, laundry services, “dedicated” dormitories for women, and secure luggage storage.
Criterion Capital plans to launch additional floors and amenities over the next few months.
Criterion hotels head Halima Aziz said: “This is an exciting milestone for both Criterion and Zedwell. Our capsule concept introduces an entirely new way to stay in London – affordable, sustainable, and experience-driven.
“We’re proud to preserve the legacy of the London Pavilion, while opening a new chapter in its story – creating a space where guests can pause, recharge, and connect with the city, with others, and with themselves. Over the coming months, we look forward to unveiling new enhancements and bold ways we’re taking the space to the next level.”
The new property sits next to Zedwell’s flagship hotel at the Trocadero.
Last year, Criterion Capital declared its plan to convert the former Debenhams building on Princes Street in Edinburgh into its first Zedwell hotel in Scotland.
