Management Occupations drive travel and tourism industry hiring activity

Management Occupations, with a share of 19% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the Asia-Pacific travel and tourism industry in Q2 2024 , ahead of Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations with a 14% share of new job postings.

The other prominent roles included Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 9% share in Q2 2024, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 4% share and Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.

Top five companies accounted for 80% of hiring activity

The top five companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined 80% of the overall hiring activity in the Asia-Pacific travel and tourism industry in Q2 2024.

Marriott International posted 21,633 jobs in Q2 2024 and registered a growth of 3% over the previous quarter, followed by Shangri-La Asia with 17,704 jobs and a 50% drop. Accor, with 2,264 jobs, and Hilton Worldwide, with 1,979 jobs, recorded an 11% drop and an 8% drop, respectively, while Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts recorded a 275% increase with a 1,468 new job postings during Q2 2024.

Regional analysis of hiring in the Asia-Pacific travel and tourism industry, Q2 2024

India held the leading share of the Asia-Pacific travel and tourism hiring activity with a 27.91% share, a 32% decrease over Q1 2024. China was next with 19.96%, four-percentage-point up over the previous quarter.
