The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 30.4% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2021 over the previous month, led by BCD Travel Services’s 15.51% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity increased 17.65% when compared with January 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.48% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in February 2021, up 0.57% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of February 2021 were 24.36% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 53.16% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 56.47% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in February 2021, a 36.4% increase over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 15.88% in February 2021, up 115.25% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.95% share in February 2021, increase of 78.45% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 5.44% share in February 2021 and rise of 27.94% over January 2021.

Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in February 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average increase of 107.05% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during February 2021 over January 2021.

BCD Travel Services posted 248 IT jobs in February 2021 and registered a rise of 24700% over the previous month, followed by Expedia Group with 194 jobs and a 25.1% decline. Deutsche Bahn with 179 IT jobs and Uber Technologies with 163 jobs, recorded a 358.97% increase and a 61.39% growth, respectively, while Booking Holdings recorded a 217.5% growth with 127 job postings during February 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in February 2021 with a 51.53% share, which marked a 39.42% growth over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 28.71%, registering a 168.42% month-on-month increase. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.45% share and a 6.05% rise over January 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.81% and a month-on-month growth of 11.54%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.5%, registering a 7.69% drop over the previous month.
