Australia’s travel & tourism industry registered a 16.1% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 2.14% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the travel & tourism industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.42% share in December 2021, recording a decrease of 1.19% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Australia’s travel & tourism industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 95.65% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s travel & tourism industry in December 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 39.13% in December 2021, registering a 47.06% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 26.09% share, a decrease of 40% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 13.04%, registering a 20% rise from November 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 10.87%, up 150% over the previous month.

Top five travel & tourism companies in Australia’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 43.4% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s travel & tourism industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

Flight Centre Travel Group posted 13 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a drop of 7.14% over the previous month, followed by Virgin Australia Holdings with 7 jobs and a 30% drop. Crown Resorts with 4 IT jobs and Expedia Group with 3 jobs, recorded a 33.33% growth and an 81.25% decrease, respectively, while Qantas Airways recorded a decline of 70% with 3 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 73.91%, down by 43.33% from November 2021. Entry Level positions with a 10.87% share, registered a decline of 37.5% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 8.7% share, down 50% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 6.52%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
