
The global travel & tourism industry noticed an 8.4% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2022 over the previous month, led by Deutsche Bahn’s 13.11% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity declined 7.59% when compared with October 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.5% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in November 2022, down 0.06% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2022 were 5.43% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 12.57% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 52.39% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in November 2022, a 3.46% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 21.15% in November 2022, down 28.97% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.23% share in November 2022, a growth of 15.14% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.8% share in November 2022 and a drop of 22.09% over October 2022.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in November 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 68.35% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during November 2022 over October 2022.
Deutsche Bahn posted 269 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a rise of 240.51% over the previous month, followed by A.P. Moller – Maersk with 192 jobs and a 4.35% growth. Walt Disney with 159 IT jobs and Columbia Hospitality with 124 jobs, recorded a 35.89% decline and a 4033.33% rise, respectively, while Meyer Jabara Hotels recorded a 12200% rise with 123 job postings during November 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in November 2022 with a 45.81% share, which marked a 17.9% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 30.9%, registering a 4.79% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.96% share and an 8.25% drop over October 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 3.41% and a month-on-month rise of 22.81%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.93%, registering a 72.73% increase over the previous month.
