Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations, with a share of 16%, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the global travel and tourism industry in Q1 2024, ahead of Management Occupations with a 14% share of job postings.

The other prominent roles include Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 9% share in Q1 2024, Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance Occupations with a 30% share and Personal Care and Service Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in travel and tourism industry accounted for 57% of hiring activity

The top five companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined 57% share of the overall hiring activity in the global travel and tourism industry in Q1 2024.

Marriott International posted 49,731 jobs in Q1 2024 and registered a growth of 28% over the previous quarter, followed by Shangri-La Asia with 34,067 jobs and a 215% growth. Hilton Worldwide with 11,349 jobs and Accor with 6,830 jobs, recorded a 25% growth and 0.09% drop, respectively, while Extended Stay America recorded a 6% drop with 3,915 job postings during Q1 2024.

Hiring activity was driven by North America with a 47% share of total new job postings, Q1 2024

North America held the leading share of the new job postings in the global travel and tourism industry with a 47% share, a 4% higher over Q4 2023. Asia-Pacific stood next with 32%, registering a 61% growth over the previous quarter.

Europe with a 13% share marked a 4% drop over Q4 2023. The Middle East & Africa and South & Central America accounted for shares of 4% and 0.71% respectively.
