STR, the data and analytics company for the hospitality industry, has highlighted Amsterdam’s hotel rates as the highest on record during the month of April 2023.

Using preliminary data on year-over-year change, the city’s hotel occupancy rate was 83.9% in April 2023, an increase of 13.6%. This was Amsterdam’s highest since October 2019.

Amsterdam’s average daily room rate was €214.51 (£186.2), a rise of 30.5%.

The city’s revenue per available room was €180.07 (£156.3), a significant increase of 48.2%.

From daily data, Amsterdam’s hotel occupancy rate peaked on Saturday, 29 April (93.7%). STR says this was helped by musical band Metallica’s M72 World Tour.

The market’s daily occupancy levels remained above 70% throughout the month with only one day falling below that mark (10 April, at 66.8%).

Amsterdam’s popularity has seen hotel companies such as Minor Hotels select the city to expand their portfolios. The Avani hotel brand will open a 163-room hotel there in 2024.

GlobalData also highlights that Amsterdam is a key destination for LGBTQ+ tourists due to its legal framework and liberal attitudes.

Founded in 1985, STR provides data benchmarking, analytics and marketplace insights for the global hospitality industry. It was acquired by CoStar Group in 2019.
