Interactive entertainment company Atari is set to break ground on a video game-themed hotel in Phoenix, Arizona, US, later this year.
The hotel is part of the deal Atari has signed with design agency GSD Group to acquire the rights for the construction of video game-themed Atari Hotels across the US.
Apart from Phoenix, Atari is also planning to build hotels in Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, and San Jose.
Select hotels will also house venues and studios to accommodate esports events.
GSD Group and movie producer Napoleon Smith III will manage the hotels’ designs, while real estate developer True North Studio will develop the first Atari- branded hotel.
The proposed hotel will reportedly feature retro-themed and futuristic rooms, an Atari gaming playground, a movie theater, a gym, restaurants, bars, and an e-sports arena. It will also have augmented reality and virtual reality experiences.
GSD Group founder Shelly Murphy said: “Atari Hotels will be the first of their kind in the U.S., offering gamers of all ages the ultimate in immersive entertainment and in every aspect of gaming. We’re excited to be working on this project with such great partners and to bring a big win to Arizona.”
Atari, has offices in New York and Paris, owns and/or manages a portfolio of over 200 games and franchises, including Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Pong, and RollerCoaster Tycoon.
