Travelodge has announced the start of construction of its new 113-room London Chiswick hotel.

The Chiswick hotel marks Travelodge’s fourth ongoing construction project in London, joining the Kia Oval Cricket Ground, Bermondsey and Beckenham. With these additions, Travelodge is set to operate 84 hotels in the city.

The hotel is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

Forward funding and development partnerships

Travelodge secured forward funding for the London Chiswick project in November 2022.

Its funding partner, RTP Global Real Estate Investments, invested £19.4m and retained Travelodge as the development manager.

Barnes Construction, a longstanding partner of Travelodge, has been appointed as the contractor for the six-storey development.

Modern design and sustainability initiatives

The Chiswick Travelodge will embody the group’s design, meeting the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology’s “Excellent” standards and holding an energy performance certification rating of A.

Responding to insights from a consumer study which surveyed 5,000 UK business and leisure travellers “to find the psychographics of the modern budget traveller,” Travelodge’s key findings revealed that modern travellers crave style, choice and homely touches to make it easier to work, rest and relax both inside and outside of their hotel room.

The new hotel will also focus on sustainability, with features including recycled fishing net carpets, motion-sensing controls and aerated showers.

Continued expansion and strategic vision

Steve Bennett, Travelodge’s chief property and development officer, expressed enthusiasm about the Chiswick expansion and stated: “The new Travelodge will be in a fantastic location on Chiswick High Road, 400m from Gunnersbury underground and railway line, 450m from Chiswick Business Park and within easy walking distance of the Gtech Community Stadium, home of Brentford FC; so a great place for business and leisure customers to stay, either visiting the local area, or Central London.”

With more than 80 existing Travelodges in London, the company is now searching for 100 new potential hotel sites across the capital.

As Travelodge pioneers a new era in budget accommodation, the London Chiswick Travelodge is poised to contribute to London’s hospitality landscape, offering accessibility for both business and leisure travellers.
