Around 115 hotels in Los Angeles (LA) County have agreed to provide temporary shelter to the vulnerable population in the wake of Covid-19 crisis.
According to the Hotel Association of Los Angeles (HALA), the move will provide access to more than 10,000 rooms, representing nearly 15% of all LA hotel rooms.
The rooms will be used to isolate and protect population segments against the coronavirus, which has infected more than 143,000 people in the country.
HALA executive director Heather Rozman said: “Our hotel community response is just one more example of the extraordinary men and women behind the hotel business.

Currently, the association and member hotels are working with the local authorities to optimise the initiative.
The participants are also working to identify a feasible process to monitor the health of sheltered people.
Rozman added: “Our hotel rooms are available now and we know our public officials are working hard to assure the well-being of all Angeleno’s and individuals who may need temporary shelter.
“Unprecedented challenges require unprecedented action, and our hope is that by opening up thousands of hotel rooms, we can reduce the spread of this virus at a time Los Angeles needs hospitality the most.”
