Almost 250 Los Angeles hotels offer 20,000 rooms to support Covid-19 response

The Hotel Association of Los Angeles (HALA) has announced that nearly 250 hotels have joined forces in the region to offer 20,000 rooms as temporary shelter for the Covid-19 crisis.

The Hotel Association of Los Angeles (HALA) has announced that nearly 250 hotels have joined forces in the region to offer 20,000 rooms as temporary shelter for the Covid-19 crisis.

HALA said that the Los Angeles hotels have agreed to provide their properties free of charge to the public health and other county departments.

The move comes after the hotels had initially offered 10,000 rooms to support the region’s Covid-19 response on 27 March.

According to HALA, 249 LA hotelsm representing approximately 30% of all hotels, are now available to protect and isolate population segments at risk to Covid-19.

Hotel Association of Los Angeles (HALA) executive director Heather Rozman said: “Unprecedented challenges require unprecedented action. We are honoured to be a part of the solution at a time when the answer is not always clear.

“Our hope is that by opening up thousands of hotel rooms, we can reduce the spread of coronavirus at a time Los Angeles needs hospitality the most. And, in two short weeks, the number of volunteered rooms has more than doubled.”

In order to combat the spread of coronavirus, HALA has worked with several government agencies and departments to identify hotels that could assist local municipalities in responding to the crisis.

The Hotel Association added that accommodation is still required for frontline healthcare workers, coronavirus isolation, people with no shelter, victims of domestic violence and elderly populations.

Rozman added: “Rooms in Los Angeles are available now, and we are continuing to work with County officials to ensure the well-being of all Angelenos and any individual who may need temporary shelter.”
